What to pack when you walk an island
Hey everyone! The most buenos días to you all from la Isla del Encanto!
Your words of encouragement give me life when it’s 90 degrees at 8am and I still have 14 miles ahead of me.
Thank you so much for your kind words.
I’ve also really enjoyed your questions too especially from my she/her/they friends. I LOVE hearing your curiosity. I feel it provides some breakdown to underlying barriers that prevent womxn from traveling solo.
So, my friends Nicole @nicole.realfoodfirst and Sheri @sdeflav ask “I’m curious to know what you brought with you and how you packed?”
That is a great question.
I have a tendency to overpack due to a great life partner who always reminds me “it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”
This leads to:
Do I need these 72 tops?
Yes.
Because I can choose which one I’m going to wear by comparing all of them than deciding to go with the floral button-down with a tank top underneath, so that when I squirt mustard out of my sandwich and onto my shirt, I can take it off and have a backup tank top underneath.
This is my life, which usually results in me shoving stuff into the tiniest pockets of my bag and nearly missing my flight.
Apparently, I’m also a messy eater.
As a diehard carry-on luggage enthusiast, I have learned that less is more. Less is more when you want to be “hands-free” and eat an empanada.
So, here’s my bag & what I packed:
•Two pairs of shorts
•2 tank tops & 2 sport bras
•Swim top & bottom (that double as bra & underwear)
•2 pair underwear
•Long sleeve SPF sun shirt
•Bandana
•hat and sunglasses
•2 pair of socks
•walking shoes & flips
•Lightweight shirt dress
In terms of a “mess kit,” you can always buy what you need on the road if you’re flexible and willing to try new things.
Do they have the brand of tampons I prefer? Maybe not, but anything is better than...
That mindset provides structure when deciding what to pack.
What other questions do you have?! They give me something to think about instead of counting steps.
