I am walking around the island of Puerto Rico
My name is Julie đ I live in Puerto Rico and Iâm currently an quarantunemployed travel specialist with @compassandglobe travel.âŁ
I havenât had many tickets to book or itineraries to review since the beginning of the year so Iâve had quite a bit of time to think.âŁ
Puerto Rico mornings are just that: riiiiiico. I found myself walking around my neighborhood in the early mornings and would expand my route each day until one time I walked to the next town over. âŁ
I walked 100 miles during one month of quarantine and without any travel plans for the foreseeable future, I decided that I could keep walking. âŁ
Sooooo, thatâs what I am doing: walking around the 308-mile island of Puerto Rico, on foot, with a small backpack, hoping to inspire people to #optoutside and explore their own backyard this summer. In many ways for many people (myself included) itâs my only feasible travel destination. âŁ
Right now my thoughts are:âŁ
Someday I will get on a plane again and travel to explore, eat, and chat with people from another place.âŁ
Why not practice being a good traveler in my own backyard? Why not find the awe in what many of us find to be ordinary? Iâm hoping to discover places that even 85-year-old locals donât even know exist. At least Iâll try.âŁ
So, thatâs me. I think talking with locals is the quintessential bucket list check and eating my way around a place is the best souvenir.âŁ
